Depending on our activity levels, choice of exercise and diet, most women reach peak muscle mass sometime during our 30s. After that point, there is a gradual loss or decline in the percentage of muscle we have in our body. The loss of muscle leads to loss of overall strength in the body. Strength has been associated with countless health benefits some of the most important include - reduced risk for injury, reduced fall risk which really means better balance, reduced incidence of osteoporosis so if you do fall you won’t break a bone, reduced risk for obesity and diabetes, decreased systemic inflammation and finally increased life expectancy. Those are just the physical benefits. There is also plenty of evidence that exercise, specifically strength training, can prevent the onset of depression and reduce symptoms of depression. Essentially, the message is that strength will help you live better and longer.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or have a lot of experience with strength training, this talk will provide you with the information you need to build strength in your 40s and into your next decades.
We’ll discuss why we lose muscle and what we can do to preserve and build muscle. You will also have the opportunity to sign up for our Sarcoblast Classes.

On Wednesday October 25th, the Directors of Innova Health Clinics will once again be involved in the Annual MacHand Day which is focussing on the shoulder joint .
The MacHANd Group was established in 2007 as a result of the partnership and collaboration between the School of Rehabilitation Science and the Department of Surgery at McMaster University. The MacHANd Group's common interest in hand and upper limb related injuries, diseases, disorders, and conditions brings together a multi-disciplinary team of anaesthetists, hand therapists, kinesiologists, nerve specialists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, physiotherapists, plastic surgeons, radiologists, researchers, and scientists.
Once again this year, Michael Vallely will be chairing the day and Sharmila Kulkarni will be presenting a workshop for Healthcare Professionals on Patient Self-Care for the Shoulder.
As one of the most experienced Hand Therapists in the province, Michael Vallely is often asked to provide his knowledge and expertise at talks and conferences. This Saturday he will be in Toronto presenting a Splinting Workshop to Surgical Assistants.
This month our crew will be examining the pathophysiology of cardiac conditions. While we don't treat our Patients for their cardiac conditions, a thorough knowledge of the pathophysiology, the pharmacology, the current medical treatments and the effect of cardiac disease on the body as a whole are important topics for any practicing health care practitioner.
We are pleased to announce that Innova Health Clinic has been nominated in the category for: Osteopath- Marcelle Constable. Congratulations to Marcelle!
